Let me tell you just how important this photograph is to me.
Some of you may know that this is Brian Fallon, of The Gaslight Anthem. My ex showed me this band when we dated, forever ago, last year. The break up with that ex was the hardest thing I ever went through, I battled with depression, homelessness, thoughts and plans of suicide. I lost weight, made poor, horrible decisions. I was hurt a lot, taken advantage of, used, what have you, by a lot of people. I was so ready to kill myself. I just wanted to be done.
But one day, while prepping at work, I’d turned my phone on shuffle and “We Did It When We Were Young” by The Gaslight Anthem came on and I really listening to it for the first time. I stopped what I was doing, and I kept playing it over and over and over again.
That song saved my life. I started eating again, I talked to people, I let a good man into my life again, and I’m still with him. That band, The Gaslight Anthem, saved. My life. And when I met Brian, the day after my birthday, I explained that his band got me through that breakup, he gave me the biggest, humble smile, and said that he was happy for me. I started crying and he told me he’d hate to see me cry, that I should be happy.
I met my hero and lifesaver for my 20th birthday, and I did it with two of my best friends. I’m genuinely happy in this photo, hugging my hero. Best night of my life. So much love for this band.
Touches my heart a lot.. All the best for you!
Ian Perkins of The Gaslight Anthem has a Wade Barrett action figure that he takes with him everywhere. It started out as a gag, because the two are from the same hometown, but it became an everyday thing to snap pictures of what he refers to as #DailyWade in different scenarios. He’s chronicled this on his Instagram page. Whether you’re a fan of The Gaslight Anthem or not, there’s no denying that this is pretty friggin’ cool.
